5 Things To Do This Month For Social Media Growth

Besides my other goals for this month, one other thing I want to focus more on is social media. Social media has become the top traffic referral for my website since late last year. (With Pinterest is at the very top of that list.) And I want to make sure I’m getting the most out of the platforms I’m on. So, I’m aiming to give my social media presence a major boost this month. And you should, too! After all, it’s a fantastic way to grow your business! To help you out, I’m sharing five things you should do this month for social media growth:

Get to know your audience. I’ve said it a million times, but I’ll say it again here: it’s so important to know who your audience is. Who are you targeting with your content, products, and services? Get to know that Dream Customer of yours so you know exactly what she’s looking for online. When you know what she wants, you’ll be able to give it to her. You should know the following about your audience: demographics, problems they’re facing, what social media platforms they’re using, the types of content they’re looking for, etc. If you don’t know, don’t be afraid to ask! There are major benefits in creating a survey for your audience to find out exactly what they want.

Focus on being of service instead of selling. A hard sell is a turn-off for most people. So, while it’s great to go searching for people to help, don’t go searching and immediately pitch your product to them. Be of service first. Offer a solution to the problem they’re facing. When people see you have valuable advice, they’ll be appreciative of your support and see you as an authority figure in your niche. Let them come to you next. If you did a great job and truly helped them out, they’ll likely stick around. Just remember to stay top of mind by being present and answering questions regularly!

Make sure you’re always engaging your audience. Social media is meant to be social. If you’re just scheduling your updates and not checking back in on the platforms you use, you’re doing it all wrong! You need to make the time (preferably on a daily basis) to check into each of your platforms to see what people are talking about. (This is also how you’ll find ways to be of service.) Since social media can really suck you in and eat up a lot of your time, I recommend blocking off a certain amount of time each day for reading through your timelines and searching for posts from your target market. Set a timer before you get started so you’ll know when it’s time to call it quits! Answer the questions you come across. Ask questions of your own. Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there. Building a relationship with your audience is essential to your success on social media, so start looking for opportunities to start a conversation.

Set goals and track your progress. Setting goals is important because it gives you something to work toward. What would you like to achieve with your social media presence? Whatever it is, make sure it’s a specific, measurable goal. We don’t want any vague goals like, “I want more followers.” How many more do you want? Put a number on it! And when do you want to get all of those followers by? Once you have your goal in place, create a plan to help you get there and work toward it consistently. Find a way to easily track your progress. Measure followers, engagement, traffic to your website, etc. This will also help you see what’s working for you on social media and what’s not. You’ll see which posts your audience loves and which ones they aren’t really into. It will do wonders for your web presence!

Create an editorial calendar. If you aren’t already using an editorial calendar for your social media posts, you should be! You might already use one for your blog, which definitely comes in handy for keeping you on track. Managing your blog is so much easier when you have your posts planned in advance and social media is the same way. Create a calendar and start filling it with the topics you want to discuss, the types of posts you want to share, etc. It takes the stress out of social media and you won’t have to worry about forgetting to post!
